How do you feel about Flower's Death (Meerkat Manor)?

I feel almost sick to the heart….I cannot believe she is gone. I know she was just an animal but I often have more sympathy for their plight than humans because from my spiritual stand point humans have the chance to live again if they behave themselves now but animals don’t have that same promise. I knew something like this was bound to happen sooner or later…all wild animals eventually die but I wasn’t expecting her to die so brutally. The only solace I can take is that she saved the lives of not only her babies but also Axle.

FLOWER WILL BE MISSED AND LOVED!!

*cry*

=(

How do you feel about Flower's Death (Meerkat Manor)?
lol im not as emotionally attached as you are, but they had to kill off her character sometime, she wanted too much $ for next season. But really, yeah it's sad but there are plenty of other exciting meerkat adventures ahead.
Reply:Poor Flower! I am entranced by this mischevious bunch of meerkats and their unruly teenagers, rambunctious toddlers, neighbors from hell and assorted lovers. I am guilty of anthropomorphizing them all out of proportion, and as a result, I was shocked at Flower's death and cried buckets as Flowers stumbles off-camera after being bit by a cobra. (My daughter peeked in, alarmed, and inquired, "Mom!? What's WRONG?")

But it's life on the Kalahari. *sigh* Unfortunately, reality TV is sometimes *too* real :-/

I can only imagine how the film crews and researchers felt, after following Flower and her antics for three years. As sad as I was, it must have been like losing a member of the family.

I can't wait to see the movie "Queen of the Kalahari" next year. Dear, noble Flower -- goodbye.
Reply:I am heartbroken over Flower's death. I just started watching Meerkat Manor about a year ago, and had no idea I would become so addicted to it! I'm glad to see I am not the only one saddened over the loss of a wild animal in her natural surroundings. (I did get quite teary eyed at the end of the show tonight, and of course couldn't let hubby see that I was so saddened by this turn of events.) I'm anxious to see who steps up to take lead as the new Whiskers matriarch, and how their leadership affects the strength of their group.
Reply:and yet how many animals are you eating yourself?

the average is 100 per person, per year.

100 animals like flower and the rest of the meerkats

cows, pigs, and sheep are lovely creatures just like prairie dogs or pets that you are so attached to.

using your body as a grave yard and eating like most people do in the US will make you sick and kill you anyway. most people are overweight. our children are also suffering.

dairy is no better, it is enslaving and working the animals to death in awful conditions.

I was saddened by flowers death too but this sort of thing happens

"vegans dont just say they love animals"
Reply:I was in shock as I was watching! I didn't hear all the rumors before hand so I wasn't prepared. However as it was getting close to the end, I new something horrible was about to happen. The title of the episode just kept ringing in my ears...The Journeys End...I just couldn't believe it was Flower!

I, as most of you, cried most of the night. My loving husband just shook his head and let me cry. He's so good to me! I tried to watch it twice (it repeats later in the evening) but my husband wouldn't let me. I am heartbroken, but I know this is real life. The researchers did the right thing, even though it was tough. I can't imagine how devastated they must have been.

Flower will be missed...along with Carlos and the the others who have passed, but never forgotten. Life in Kalahari will go on and we will fall in love with others as the show continues.

It may not be the same without Flower, but it will go on.
Reply:Oh no!! That one I haven't seen yet. Thanks for the warning cuz it won't be such a shock when I see it. I love animal shows and books but I always feel horrible when something dies. I just read a book that had a small essay in it about where animals go when they die. It was called The Rainbow Bridge. If you google it you will be able to read it. When I read it I remembered all the pets I've had over the years and bawled my eyes out. It's more for pets than wild animals really but it is a nice passage.
Reply:I am still crying. Flower death can be compared to a pet death. The Meerkats have become a kind of "TV pet", a part of your family. I cried over Shakespeare, and Carlos... but Flower... It's going to be hard to keep watching the series.
Reply:I am just as shocked and just as sad. I have cried lots of tears over the Great Flower. Just this week I did a paper on meerkats for biology. I really do not ever want to forget Flower. She was an amazing creature, who knew what she was doing. Make sure the to see the movie in 2008 about her.

In loving memory of Flower

2000-2007

Too short of time :('''
Reply:I was absolutely devastated and am still completey traumatized. I cried like there was a death in the family, and to me Flower had become a part of mine. She was so strong and brave and in a weird way I started to look up to her. I just can't believe she's gone. That will be the last Meerkat Manor for me. I can't bear all of the death. Real or not, life is hard enough without adding all of that tragedy to it. I will remember Flower forever. She holds a VERY special place in my heart.
Reply:I am so shocked that she died! It breaks my heart. I almost cried, but I held back. I wonder what will happen now that she is gone. I figured it was bound to happen eventually but not like that...damn that Cobra!!!
Reply:I was in shock. I just loved Flower. When did this happen? I know they've been following her for 4 years, is that old for a meerkat?? As far as meerkats go, she had a nice life and became a TV star too!

I will miss her on the show. I hope baby Axle makes it.
Reply:yeah she got bit by a cobra she died in feb. animal planet did not want to tell anybody.saw it on animalplanet.com
Reply:It's the day after.... and I'm still bawling my eyes out.... add to that, my runny nose! After the Blossom incident, I didn't know if I could continue watching the show if there was going to be a horrible death in each episode. So, I quickly researched the life span of a meerkat, and was relieved to find out that their span is about 12 years. "Home free", I thought....... YEAH RIGHT! It's so heart breaking that on the day she displayed so much good will towards the other gals in her clan, and how she selflessly cared for the abandoned pup, Axle.... would be the same day she unexpectedly, and brutally lost her life..... doing the thing she did best..... PROTECTING HER FAMILY!
Reply:I knew something like this was going to happen! They prepared us for it, but it has affected me far more deeply than I thought it would. I don't know what it is about Meerkat Manner--but I've grown fond of those little guys. I will miss her. The death of Carlos had the same affect on me.
Reply:I feel heartsick over dear Flowers death as well. Most saw her as mean and ruthless; I guess at times she was. We must remember that in the animal kingdom what we would never consider acceptable, they consider survival. Flower was a devoted LEADER, she did what was deemed necessary for the OVERALL welfare of her family. The overwhelming response to her death is such a touching statement about animal lovers today. We're all a bunch of mush pots on the inside. On Friday evening nearing the end of the show I began to cry softly...I felt so sad for poor Flower. Then I heard the flood gates open as my 8 yr. old son realized that she had died. I have never....EVER heard him cry like this before. He was inconsolable. I held him and cried with him trying to explain how nature works, but nothing worked; he was devastated. Finally, I got dressed and took him to our market to purchase a colorful balloon bouquet. He had handwritten a goodbye note and drawing to our girl Flower, which we tied to the end. We drove to our friends house as the last traces of light left the sky and released them. We all cried for dear Flower. Today I found the adopt a meerkat org. and will happily donate $100 to allow my son to have an interactive experience that will last a lifetime. I'm going to sign Flowers name to the card. She will live on through sharing loving acts like this...I believe. We love you FLOWER- the Kalahari Rose-
Reply:r i p
Reply:All I could do was cry! Flower the leader, tough, smart and crafty when necessary. She carried a lot on her shoulders. What will happen to our Whiskers? Who can ever take the place of the leader, Flower? I can add Flower to the list of Meerkats I will miss. These tiny little creatures that have made us laugh and cry, we find them beyond interesting, where we have learned to love them! You will be missed, RIP, Flower!
Reply:I cried my heart out. I'll just tell u that Mozart and kinkajou will also die.
Reply:Though i an saddened by her death, my question is... What Happened to the Cobra???? Did she kill it? Did the family kill it? Did it gets it's meal? I only saw one pup (Lily) come out of the burrow, no mention of the sitters?
Reply:What courage - Flower gave her life to protect her babies, and she was fearless. I bawled like a baby and called my boyfriend, "Bruce . . . FLOWER IS DEAD!!!" and realized he probably thought I was overreacting as I was sobbing into the phone and told him what had happened. She was a tough little Meerkat, and didn't take any crap, but with courage and leadership always comes risk of danger . . . I just feel a sense of loss and sadness. :(
Reply:I can't believe flowers gone forget about holding back tears I was practically bawling! I always thought she'd die of old age in her sleep nestled up in the burrow. I'm gonna miss Flower more than I probably should :(
Reply:She Died ! HOW? Yes She Will Be Missed.
Reply:It is heartbreaking, I am shocked by how this effected me. I cried.

I am sad to see her go, she was my favorite meerkat.
